How to Update Your Spring Wardrobe on a Budget with Thred Up!

This post is in partnership with Thred Up, but as always, all opinions are my own!Love Alfa, Alfa Sengupta, Thred Up, Thred Up fashion, Second hand clothing

I cannot believe that the first day of Spring was yesterday! How is that even possible!? To be fair this week is dragging, but man, this year is just flying by!

Anyway, I recently ranted about how much I’m annoyed with social media telling me to BUY BUY BUY. It’s practically everywhere I turn! It’s coming at me from Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, and even my mailbox! If you have no idea what I’m talking about, come find me on Instagram

I feel this weird pressure of wanting to keep on trend to keep up with everybody, which is obviously really silly. I don’t need the newest dress that just came out at Gap/Anthro/Target/Old Navy/etc, because guess what? It honestly doesn’t make a difference! And if I’m being really honest, my wallet can’t support it. With everybody posting about the exact same sales, and the exact same hot new thing that’s out in the stores, it starts to feel like everyone is shopping at the same stores and buying the exact same outfits! There is literally no originality to any of it, and it definitely doesn’t feel unique.

I like to put away my clothes for the summer when October hits, and then when March comes, I put away all the winter-wear and pull out all the spring/summer items! I did it last week during Spring Break, and lemme tell ya. It felt like I was just shopping my closet. I found a plain ol’ gray t-shirt dress, and guess what? It fits, it’s just fine, and I’m positive that I can make it work this Spring of 2018 because it’ll be completely ok to repeat!

Now, I totally get it. You’re thinking: “but, its fun to stop for new clothes!”

Ummmm, you’re preaching to the choir. I couldn’t agree more. There is something to be said about retail therapy, but it doesn’t need to happen all the time, am I right? If you love to shop, but are in my boat, I say head directly to Thred Up. A shop that sells second-hand clothing, or stuff that still even has new tags at a super discounted price! Like this Vince Camuto skirt, or this J.Crew Blazer! Both are brand new with tags, but beyond discounted with such great, affordable prices!

If there is a retail store close to you, I say definitely go there ASAP. I ended up with a beautiful Loft dress for a $1!!!!! You guys, a dollar! It’s less than a cup of coffee at Starbucks! #winning

All my local Austinites, the one you wanna head to is at the Domain! It’s the cutest store, and you’ll end up with so much stuff! It’s hard to walk out empty handed!

Thred Up will also take your clothes! Order a bag, and when it arrives, put on some music and clean out that closet! Send it in, and you’ll get money to shop! It doesn’t get much easier than that! It’s practically free if you think about the fact that you didn’t have to spend a dime, your closet got cleaned, and you end up getting to choose new items! Is that a WIN-WIN-WIN?? I would have to go ahead and say yes.

I visited their store earlier this month, and got so many different items for next to nothing!

Here are some of my finds!

I scored this adorable J. Crew plaid green button down shirt for $5!! Yes, $5! Added some jeans, and I’m good to go! A new outfit, for basically $5! Can you tell I was excited about it being $5?

Another one was this really cute J. Crew striped top for $6! I paired it with some Olive Green Banana Republic shorts I’ve owned for about 4 years now, and threw on some wedges I bought last from Target! Added my fave tote I’ve now had for over 3 years, and voila!

This vintage, floral top was $8 and I’m obsessed with it! So unique, and so much character! Paired it again with those super old Banana Republic shorts and the same wedges, and it was an immediately another fun outfit!

Last, but not least, the best of all was this beautiful long dress, that was this peachy-orange color, and had some embroidery on the top. I basically put it on, and didn’t want to take it off! It was such a romantic dress! It was under $30! Threw on some sandals from last year, a floppy hat that’s a few years old, and this beautiful Chloe dupe I scored on Amazon a while back, and I got myself the perfect spring outfit!

My point is, I got just a few items, that were beyond affordable and was able to create so many great looks with what was already in my closet. Don’t let the hustle of the sales being shared all over the place get you! Find what you have in your closet, add in a few items by getting rid of things you don’t want anymore, and you’ve got yourself some new ensembles! Not to mention, you’ll have pieces in your closet that won’t look like everybody else’s!

I love to shop a great sale! I try to keep my closets cleaned out regularly, and I’m to the point where I NEED to shop for clothes. Considering the need and the price tag, along with some good ole moderation is key! Glad you were able to find some great deals!

I love shopping at these stores! We don’t have a ThredUp in our city but we have quite a lot of other ones that have cute, higher end clothing for less. I hope we get one soon!
