We are doing a little advent calendar to countdown to Christmas, but I’ve decided to take a fabulous idea from my friend Sheetal, who uses books instead of treats! She wraps them up, and puts them under the tree, and I thought this was the perfect way to open a little gift everyday and read a book!
Now I know what you’re thinking…did I go out and buy 24 books?? Hell to the no. 90% of the books that are wrapped are all ours that just haven’t been read in a long time. People gift us books all the time, especially my mom and my MIL so we just have loads and loads and loads of books!!
If your kids are like mine, they could literally read their five-10 favorite books over and over again. I figured this would be the perfect way to read more of the books that are around our house but we haven’t gotten to, or have forgotten about! If you don’t have a surplus of books hanging around in your house, I totally get that too! What my friend does is goes to the library, and gets books from there that she wraps! That way you’re not out the money, and you got to read new books!
The books definitely don’t have to be Christmas or holiday related! Most of mine aren’t and I’m completely fine with that! Books are books, and anything that encourages reading everyday, I’m totally here for that! But, just in case you’re looking for some Christmas/Holiday books to buy, here are some you can add to your collection!
1. How The Grinch Stole Christmas || 2. The Polar Express || 3. The Night Before Christmas || 4. Pete the Cat Saves Christmas || 5. Construction Site on Christmas Night || 6. Little Blue Truck’s Christmas || 7. Llama Llama Jingle Bells || 8. The Itsy Bitsy Reindeer || 9. Dear Santa || 10. Fancy Nancy Splendiferous Christmas
I should also add that if you feel like it’s too late since tomorrow is December 1, maybe only do a 12 or 10 day countdown that starts later in December! You make the rules and they don’t have to be 24 books! It should be a fun and exciting thing!
